Fashionista's say to Layer, So why keep it just to clothes?

Do you love to layer? A little cardi over a tank, and then in the fall over a ruffle blouse? Add a brooch one day, & then next time wear a necklace. I love options! Think outside of just your closet, and don't keep the options just for you wardrobe. When you purchase hair clips that are interchangeable then pair the ones that look beautiful together in a cluster. Flower + Feathers, 2 Flowers + Feathers, 3 Flowers, 3 Flowers + Feathers. It depends on who is wearing it of course, but for a little girl photo shoot do however many that looks good to you, but for everyday a Flower + Feathers or 2 Flowers together is adorable!

Here is Jaidie Bug all dolled up. I crimped her hair as she says, "Like the Ocean." and then we put three vintage inspired flowers with a feather poof clip. The flowers are not attached together. They are all backed by an alligator double pronged hair clip, and are all placed into her hair just so. You could also do this on a cardigan as a cluster/ brooch look. I will add a new blog post next to show you a simple way of using hairclips as brooches without putting holes into your favorite sweater. (wink,wink)

Cut Me, Singe Me, Attach Me, Wear Me

To save time I cut & seal all of my ribbons before hand, so then when I'm making clips I don't have to stop and cut each ribbon. If you make clips you know exactly what I am thinking... stinking little ribbons! I wish they were accessible and organized and ready! Ready when I am ready! Ok so you know my frustration. I had them all organized in zipped bags, and titled with each color. Now getting into the bags each time, trying to keep the bags on the hook began to become so frustrating, and I had to think of another way of keeping them all together, something that would hold them tight, but I could still add more when needed... and being the perfectionist type of person well I couldn't have something that would bend them out of shape. Because then I would get bent out of shape! (big ackward smile) I sinched them with a little toggle is what I call them. I use these to make headbands that are adjustable for any age. Love them! But then I thought how wonderful would that be for my ribbon, and I had an Oprah AH HA MOMENT!!! Ok it isn't that momentus but to me it was because I've been making clips this way for the past 2 years getting in and out of those bags having them all shuffled and falling off the hook. So this was amazing to me. If you need a toggle I have them to sell just hop over to facebook and jot me a note. I hope I have made your day because I am forever going to be happy with my little multi-colored little perfectly stacked and accessible ribbons. xoxo

What did you do before this/along with this?
That depends on how long 'Before this' we are talking. LOL When my 2nd child was born we made the decision to move south and for me to stay home with the kids rather than go back to work. Prior to that I was the director of IT for a small software company.

What inspires your designs?

Anything and everything but in particular children's sweet and spunky personalities. My daugther in particular has this spunky fun personality but you just don't want to take away the sweetness of their look.

What are 3 words that describe your work? Fun, colorful, stylish

What are 3 words that describe you? Trendy, laid back, creative

Do you have a favorite piece from your shop?
Oh gosh, everytime I think I have a favorite I create something else that then becomes by favorite..if I have to pick for today it's the Tuxedo Ruffle Capris, in the exact prints I have modeled. But my favorite could easily change tomorrow. ha ha.

What’s your most productive time of day? Late at night when the kids are in bed.

Where do you see your business in 5 years? Hopefully booming and helping to support my family.

What’s one thing you can’t live without? my serger

I am an avid runner. I LOVE to run, I will be running my first 1/2 marathon this month and my first full marathon later this year."

Today I am introducing Julie from Juju's Tutu's. Though you all know her tutu's are a fave of mine this is an interview of how Juju's Tutu's all began, and let's us get to know Julie more.

What did you do with this/along with this?

Oringinally I set out to be a teacher and taught Special Education, specifically 5-8th graders with Severe/Profound Emotional Behavioral Disorders in a self-contained classroom setting. I loved what I did and worked at an amazing school with great staff, but it was so emotionally draining. My son Seth was a toddler and it was really hard to be away from him all day and then not feel like I had enough emotionally left in me to be the mom I wanted to be to him when I got home from work. It was hard for me to justify raising someone else's child all day long while I paid someone to raise mine. I decided to look for alternatives and found a great Network Marketing Compnay called Arbonne. I quickly replaced my teacher's salary by doing that and built a business with that company for 5 years. I still felt like my creative side wasn't being tapped into like I needed it to be and decided to designs for a clothing line. One design that I came up with I thougth would look great with a tutu, but I didn't know how to make them so I literally spent months trying to get it down just right. What cand I say? I'm a perfectionist! During the process my friends got lots of sub-par tutu's! I asked a girlfriend who owned a Children's Boutique and carried tutus to look at my designs to let me know if they were even close to the ones that she saw at market. She asked if she could start carrying them and Juju's Tutu's was born!

What inspires your designs?

Just about everything! Pictures, flowers, ribbon, nature, my daughter Amaya, movies, the way two colors of tulle look whtn I inadvertently put them together while cleaning up my workroom... sometimes it's hard to turn off the design process!

What are 3 words that describe your work? This is so hard! I actually had to ask my FB fans for help on this! Whimsical, Magical, Exquisite

What are 3 words that describe you? Perfectionist, Imaginative, Loving

Do you have a favorite piece from your shop? This seriously changes almost daily based upon what I've created. Right now I'm really loving "Puttin on the Ritz" Tutu.

What's your most productive time of day? When my kiddos are napping adn I can solely focus on working while listening to shows on Hulu in the background.

Where do you see your business in 5 years? My dream is to be able to get Juju's to a place where I am able to rent out a space for manufacturing, where everything is still handmade by a close group of my amazing and talented friends and myself. One section of the workshop will be closed off and be used for Free childcare so my friends who need a little bit of extra money coming into their household, yet can't afford to pay childcare costs can earn the money that they need. The front section will be used for retail and birthday parties. I also have some really exciting plans to branch Juju's Tutu's into other areas of the market too, but right now it's "top secret"!

What is one thing you can't live without? While working it's 4 things, coffee, Diet Dr. Pepper, Chocolate and Hulu!

Anything else you would like us to know? I absolutely LOVE what I do! It's a lot of hard work to try to run a small start-up business and raise a family, but for me, it's totally worth it! I have a wonderful husband who jumps in to help where he can (he's actually glued "Minnie Mouse Dot's
on tutus and sewn waistbands!), a supportive extended family, amazing friends and awesome business contacts and partners. This supporst system inspires me, encourages me and holds me accountable. Without them, I wouldn't be here!

I have joined forces with 2 great Etsy Shops and below is some of our newest collaberations. Becky who does MakMayDesigns (interview below) is definately a person who aims to please. She creates custom shirts that are definately adorable and her own unique style. Julie from Juju's tutu's makes tutu's that cuter than the norm. She for sure plans out her colors with that extra Pizzaz and has an eye for the end result. That is always a great thing when 3 shops are working together. We all have our own style but when it all comes together it is ADORABLE!!! It's exciting for each of us to see the end result, and all 3 of us smile from ear to ear of the end result. ---What did you do before this/along with this?--- I was an art director for a magazine publishing company. Now I am a stay-at-home mom, but I also still do the 'magazine thing,' as I have started up two of my own: one at my kids' school, and one that goes to 5 different Chicago Public Schools.

I am so very excited for this... because when I began this venture of making clips I wanted to make unique, not what everyone has, kind of clips. I was tired of seeing all the same flowers and it truly put a fire in me to create things that I had not seen or that had been made. I love it... and that's an understatement. Violet & Cranberry Taffeta with Tulle

I found this fabric and wanted to Yell... GORGEOUS!!! Ok I was by myself on a 2 1/2 hour shopping spree. A Shopping Spree? You ask? Ok to me that is with out my kids. I could wander in and out of whatever isle I wanted and went to 4 stores. I truly was in bliss and I really felt like I had been given a Shopping Spree! So back to this gorgeous fabric...It is a 2 toned Tafetta and I thought to mix the colors in layers would just be so pretty. I haven't created anything with this fabric before, and when I saw this fabric how rich it was and just so elegant I had to buy it. I cut it in too squares because all i have seen is the round flowers and I wanted to make something a little different. I think I will do one round later, but for now I wanted to do something just a little different to see what it would look like. I created it so I'm not going to diss, but I really love the way it turned out.

Minnie Mouse Hairclip

A friend asked me to make her daugther some Minnie Mouse clips, and so I decided to make my own pattern instead of the die cut I was using. Because the shape wasn't perfect circles the ears are more oval shaped I decided after that I like the classic shape of Minnie and Mickey better. So... of course I had to add some sparkle, and then I was going to do just crystal hearts but thought some little bows with the hearts would make them look more complete.

My Mother-in-Law decided October 09 to take our family and my husbands brother's family to Disneyland. We weren't going to argue with her. ;) We had our bags packed in September. And of Course... I just "had" to make a shirt for my kids. Me and my craftiness... drive myself crazy somedays. I made a Minnie Mouse cut out and added a red fabric flower to her ear, and then made my daughter the same flower for her hair. My sons was Mickey with a dusty blue stitch all the way around. I think they turned out adorable and different from all the shirts I have seen made. Still simple but stylish. :) Disneyland was a blast. We had so much fun as a family, and my kids loved being with their cousins.

For the Love of Corduroy

When I make my fabric flowers I can only make them so big when I am layering them, so I was fiddling with the fabric to see how I could make it bigger and well it worked. A little cut there, a little glue there, some rearranging of the petals and TA DA! :) I love it!, let me say that again... I looooooooovvve IT! This is one of a kind, I think that it is so unique being made out of corduroy, the corduroy and the layers with tulle. I made it unlike any others I have made. Is it that different from other flowers I have made? To me it is because it has opened my mind to the idea of so many other flowers I could make using fabric. This little flower is a stepping stone to so many other peices of fabric that I can use to make "bigger" flowers. So "For the Love of Corduroy" you have inspired me and thank you for it.

For the Love of Owls

I really wanted to make a new owl. The body of the owl is done in a beautiful dark purple with highlights of many colors. Yellow scalloped eyes with big gems to make her eyes sparkle, a pink stitched heart with a green glittered heart in the middle, and an orange glitter beak and toes. And of course I should have made 2 because as soon as I showed it to my daughter she wanted to keep it. :) So if you want one I'll have to make it from scratch. But I think it turned out really cute, unique from owls I have seen, and I truly love all the different colors.

Girly Skull & Bones in HOT PINK!!!

After I made the Girly Skull & Bones for my neieces dance team, and woah that was a task ;). My friend asked if I would make one for her daughter in Hot Pink & Black. Made with Hot Pink Tulle, Ribbon and of course the darling Skull & Bones Bottlecaps that I make I think she's going to love it, it is perfect for her. :) And don't ask me why I have flipped this and it won't upload into my blog the right direction, so just tilt your head a little. ;)

From my new friend and customer Michelle here is a darling picture of her little girl. I truly love seeing pic's of darling little girls with my Jaidie Bug clips on. I hand make each of them with a little Jaidie Bug love dusted on each of them. I of course love putting them on my little girl, but to see them on other little girls just makes me smile from ear to ear. I am a stay at home with a mega creative side, so to be able to make these and love doing it makes it so fun. Chocolate covered Oreo Truffles

1 package Oreo's - crushed
8 oz. Cream Cheese - room temp
knead together, use a spoon and roll into balls.
Try to get them all the same size will equal 30-34 balls.
Melt 1/2 a bar of Almond Bark, dip in chocolate, set on parchment to cool.
While still warm sprinkle with whatever you like, coconut, nuts, colored sugar crystals.
Buy the miniature baking cups to set in. Set in fridge to cool & set up.

Cinnamon & Sugar Candied Pecans

unsalted butter for preparing baking sheet
1 large egg
1 tablespoon water
1 Cup sugar
1 Teaspoon cinnamon
1 Teaspoon kosher salt
1 Lb. pecan halves

225 degree oven
lightly butter a rimmed baking sheet
in a small bowl whisk egg white and water until no liquid remains and it's foamy
in a separate bowl stir together sugar, cinnamon, and salt
then add pecans to egg white mixture; toss gently to coat
sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over the pecan mixture to coat stir to combine evenly
scatter pecans on prepared baking sheet (do not layer)
bake the pecans and stir every fifteen minutes until they are rich brown and nicely glazed
Takes one hour

Wintery Wonderland Mittens

These little mittens are about the size of quarters. I added little fluffy pearl cuffs and pearl snowflakes to the sparkly red. I thought they turned out adorable especially to wear with a little red or cream sweater. With these in her hair and her peppermint striped scarf I think she will love wearing these. 12 x 12 Paper GiftBox

Do you have tons of 12 x 12 paper???I do... :P And if you do, use it to make a gift boxes. Share this idea with friends and family for an inexpensive and adorable gift box.

My good friend made this for me and I thought it was adorable. I've kept it and thought I'd share it with you. X-mas is expensive enough as it is, and then buying little containers to put goodies or anything in can make it even more expensive. So whip out your 12 x 12 paper and make one of these. My friend did a white piece of paper then cut 10, 4 inch squares, and then took 8, 4 inch squares and cut them in 1/2 to create the triangles. You will use your paper cutter just for the little groove to get scour your paper so it will bend at a straight line. Use a scourer or anything that will put a crease in your paper but not cut through it. Measure 4 inches in from edge, scour, 4 inches from there, scour, turn paper one turn and do again same thing again. You will create a + kind of pattern in the middle of your paper. Flip paper over to other side. Look at the 4 corners boxes. You will scour right through the middle of those 4 squares to create a triangle. Hole punch the corners and they will fold in towards the middle. Put ribbon through the hole punches to cinch the box together. Add shredded paper or tissue paper, and your goodies and you are set. Girls Day Out!

Jaidie Bugs Nana took us out for a Girls Day Out! at Disney on Ice. Nana got her a little bag with body wash, lotion, nail polish, and her little Princess Aurora Jacket. So we gave her the royal treatment with sparkly body wash, princess pink lotion, and I made her a princess clip to match her jacket. She had so much fun, and had no idea that minnie and mickey would be there. When she saw them it was like, Whhaaaaaaaat??? They are here too? It was great. The look on her face was priceless. We had so much fun and she can't stop talking about it, and trying to choose who was her favorite. She turns 4 soon, and I can't believe how time has flown.

Glittery Girl Skull & Bones

I was asked to make hairclips for a Dance Team that is doing a Pirate production in Black, Red & White. The little girls are wearing Red and Black and the older girls White & Black. I love Bottle Caps and so I added a glittered scalloped edge, then a glittered circle to the middle to make sure they Sparkled! I gathered red sparkly tulle for half of them and then did pirate striped fabric flowers for the other half. I love how they turned out and I think the girls wearing them are going to absolutely love them... I hope so! I worked really hard on them. They are really fun, unique and when they get their group pictures I will have to post a picture of them.

I made these especially for my little Journee. Her Mom is the Teacher, and she asked if I could make her a set of clips. She's only 2. So she Moves and Grooves!!! just not on the dance floor yet. :) But of course she has to have clips to match her warm up outfit, and show that she's their #1 Fan!!!

My friend Kathy asked me to make these from her fabric to go with her 3 daughters church dresses, and I think they are Beautiful! They have small white polka-dots on them and being all white makes them so soft and delicate. After making them I thought in the future I should make other solid color flowers because of how gorgeous these turned out. If you have a blessing or a baptism, or a special day where you want to wear white these would be the perfect accessory. The picture with 2 are 3 inches in diameter and the other flower by it's self is a smaller version for her little baby and it measures at 1 3/4ths inches. They remind me of summer rainstorms which here in Utah are usually a big down poor and come far and few in between. I am working on more vintage flowers a few new fabrics that you haven't seen. I am still pondering on ideas for quiet books and any input would be gladly appreciated. I am going to go off into my creative zone for a few days and get busy on whatever peaks my creativity. For The Fun of Confetti

Curly Bows, Confetti Bows is what our family calls them are one of my favorites. I bought some for my daughter when she was around 2 and all of my favorite pictures are of her in her "Confetti Bows". I decided to try to make them and surprisingly they were harder than I thought, but once I got them made they turned out so cute they are for sure worth it. Let me know if you would like me to make some Confetti Bows for you. I don't think I can make them exactly like these because they don't sell the exact same striped ribbon, but I can for sure do a combo of colors for you and use any color of ribbon.

And yes these are hairclips. Definitely unique, totally darling, covered in glitter and what little girl doesn't love sweets, crayons and lipstick. I can do these in any color. A Candy in Red and White for Christmas time, or a Crayon for your daughters first day of school, or a red Lipstick for Valentine's Day.

My vintage inspired flowers. The ones that are not polka-doted I only have a limited quantity because I only have a small amount of each fabric. So if you love these let me know so you can make sure you get the one you love. Ideas for in the Future...

Just to let you know what my busy little mind is thinking I am thinking of making quiet books. I am open to any suggestions of layout, and things like that and would love to know your thoughts. Each page a color to learn colors, princess book/(felt)paperdolls for girls, planes trains and automobiles for boys, they will be made out of felt and I will add buttons, zippers, magnets and lots of other things like that for them to strengthen their hand-eye coordination. I have many ideas in my head and am trying to decide what you... my Jaidie Bugians would like the best. Let me know what you think.

Lots of New Flowers

I have been working hard on new and all different flowers and have approximately 90 for you to see. I have added them all to the top slide show at the bottom and they are set to come up as the first pictures. Here are a few of my favorites and or so adorable that I am just giddy to put them on my blog. The 2 pictures with the single flowers measure a little less than 4 inches and are the biggest flowers I have done so far. The group of 3 flowers measure from 3 to 3 1/2inches wide and are layered with many colors to be able to wear with more of your ensembles. ;) Of course as with everything if you see something you like but want done in other colors just let me know.

Frill me Baby!

I wanted to try and make something with fabric so I used black & white polka-dot fabric, black and pink tulle, a small black flower and a crystal to add a little sparkle. You can put it in your hair, on a hat, or on a sweater as a broach.

Little Polka-dot Tankini

I bought my daughter a swimming suit and I know she can't wear a clip swimming but the colors are so cute they inspired me. I glittered the yellow, stitched the black, polka-doted the green, and added the button to finish it off. I would not have thought of the color combo and different elements all stacked together. It's so summery and I'm so glad I made it. This design has inspired me to do other colors all stacked, so if you like this I can make it any colors you would like.

Ribbon Daisy

I wanted to make a daisy out of ribbon and began experimenting yesterday and when I got done with this I thought it was adorable. The ribbon is stiff enough it holds it shape, and I like the ribbons silkiness. I will be experimenting more with other ribbon, so keep an eye out for the Ribbon Daisy.

Dainty Felt Bows

I made these little felt bows and they are so simple but so cute when you put them in your hair. I love all the different things I can do with them, and there will be many more I am going to make.

Uniqueness... just how I like it.

That's why I began making these because I haven't seen them before. I love big boutique flowers and beautiful bows (I of course make them and buy them), but I wanted to do something different. I also love that I can create something. A bow you loop it and tie it (though some ribbon is to cute to pass up), but I can't make it as unique as I can by cutting a shape, glittering, sewing and adding whatever other jazziness I want. I hope that you appreciate my designs, my style, my extra love that I put into each one. Because I truly love making these and really put a piece of love and my OCD/Perfection tendency's into each one. :) I get it from my Mom and Sisters... I'll blame them later. ;) I hope that you love anything that you have purchased. Please check out my blog for any new designs becuase there will for sure be new ones. Tomorrow is Herriman Days... hopefully it does not rain the whole day :) I mentioned I'd be selling in Malad, ID on Saturday but my niece had a family reunion and had to cancel the booth. What is more summery than a Watermelon? I love when watermelons start to appear. It reminds me of the great 4th of July nights at my Grandma & Grandpa's house eating Watermelon as the fireworks shimmered the whole night sky. I glittered it in red glitter and added pearly white for the highlights. Enjoy, and happy summer!
